Barry Lynn Heightchew

Barry Lynn Heightchew, age 62, of Pleasureville, KY and a dedicated individual known for his service to the community, passed away on June 23, 2024 in LaGrange, KY. He was born on August 3, 1961, in Shelbyville, KY the son of Walter Hubert and Norma Jean McAlister Heightchew.

Barry's commitment to serving others shone brightly throughout his career. He was a valued member of the Pleasureville Fire Department and had previously worked for Pleasureville, Henry County, and Carroll County EMS. Additionally, he served as an EMS Board member for Henry County. Barry's passion for helping those in need left a lasting impression on the lives he touched.  Barry also retired in 2000 as a highway inspector for the Kentucky Department of Transportation. 

Outside of work, Barry found joy in simple pleasures. He enjoyed watching old Westerns and Game shows in his leisure time. His love for these shows reflected his appreciation for the classics and simpler times.

Barry faced his final moments after a long illness but will always be remembered for his strength and resilience. His spirit will live on through the memories shared by those who knew him best.

Barry is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Sanford Heightchew of Pleasureville, KY whom he married April 12, 1991; his devoted mother, Norma Jean McAlister Heightchew of New Castle, KY; three sons; Matthew S. (Vanessa) Woods, Joseph B. (Krystal) Woods, and David W. (Tara) Woods - all of Pleasureville, KY; as well as his brother Mike (Lu) Heightchew of Pleasureville, KY. He is also survived by his cherished dogs Boo, Trooper, and Mr. Butters.

Barry was preceded in death by his brother Wayne Heightchew and father Walter Hubert Heightchew.

The services to honor and celebrate Barry's life will be held at Sholar-Riley Funeral Home located at 5710 Castle Hwy in Pleasureville, KY. A visitation will take place on Wednesday, June 26th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Thursday, June 27th from 11:00 AM - 2:00  followed by a Funeral Service on June 27th  at 2:00 PM.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Woods, Braxxtin Woods, Samuel Brewer, Taylor Hardin, Steven Heightchew, Ronnie McAlister, Mike Lucas and Steve Lucas.

In remembrance of Barry's selfless dedication to others and the impact he had on so many lives, may we find comfort in the memories we shared with him. Rest in peace, Barry Lynn Heightchew.
