Betty Sue Thurmond (Bolyard) Rose 91, passed away on Friday morning, September 24, 2021 at Countryside Manor in Fremont, Ohio. She was born in Fallis, Kentucky, (grew up in Clements Bottom) on March 30, 1930 to the late George Edmond Thurmond and Agnes (O’Brien) Thurmond.
Betty was preceded in death by her spouse(s) Harlin Kenneth Bolyard, and Jessie Lee Rose; her son Kenneth Edmund Bolyard; her siblings, Charles Thurmond, Edna Katherine (Thurmond) Moore, Drucilla (Sis) (Thurmond) Adams, Marie (Thurmond) Clubb, Lela Regis (Thurmond) Hollis, Paul Francis Thurmond; and her son in laws David Ickes, David Goodman and Joseph Feldman.
She is survived by her daughters, Angela (Bolyard) Goodman of Burgoon, OH, and Vicky (Bolyard) Feldman of Mesa, AZ; her Grandchildren, Neil Ickes, David Ickes (Angie), Melody Harrison (Steven), Beau Ickes (Isabell), all of OH, and Nicholas Feldman of Mesa, AZ, and Samuel Feldman-Crough (Alex) of Oakland CA, Her many great great grandchildren, many nieces, and nephews, of Georgia, Kentucky, Ohio, Mississippi, Virginia and Texas. She was respected and loved by all.
Betty worked various jobs and was known to have held several at a time, from waitress, to beauty school, then a hairdresser, and retired from Douglas General Hospital in Douglasville, GA as Manager of Environmental Services. She loved people and never met a stranger. She loved the Lord and her family most of all. She loved fishing and a good fish fry, traveling wherever her car and a plane could take her, her cats, nature, gardening, and her many flowers. She attended her grandchildren’s birthdays if it meant getting in her car and driving for hours or by plane. She had an adventurous nature and loved and lived life to the fullest. She did not believe in “I can’t”....She always used a calm, low tone when getting her point across. She loved to tell of the days of old and we loved to hear the stories, learning something new each time. She loved to travel to Clements Bottom when she was in Kentucky to see the old home place and remanence of home, friends, family and school days in the Bottom. She loved the picnics and reunions in Clements Bottom. We will miss her tight hugs and the kiss on the cheek each time we would see her, but we know she is happy in the presence of the Lord. Until we meet again.....
Betty was attended Plum Creek Baptist Church in Taylorsville when she was living in KY and able.
