Dorothy E. (Hearne) Bruce

Dorothy E. (Hearne) Bruce, 92, a cherished homemaker and beloved member of her community, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2025, in Lockport, Henry County, Kentucky. Born on May 20, 1933, in Owenton, Owen County, Kentucky, to the late William Clark Hearne and Maranda (Smith) Hearne, Dorothy's life was characterized by her devotion to her family, her passion for nurturing her garden, and her love for cooking hearty meals that brought everyone together.

Dorothy was not just a homemaker; she was a creative spirit who found joy in painting and canning, often sharing the fruits of her labor with family and friends. Her commitment to farm work reflected her deep connection to the land and her dedication to those she loved. As a member of the Lockport Methodist Church, her faith was integral to her life, guiding her actions and bringing her community closer together.

She leaves behind two daughters, Cathy (Stewart) Snider of Lockport, Kentucky, and Debbie Bennett of Frankfort, Kentucky, as well as one son, Larry G. (Sue) Bruce of Lockport, Kentucky. Dorothy's legacy continues through her seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom carry her spirit forward with them.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eugene D. Bruce, her sister, Judy Osborne, her brother, Waylon Hearne and her son in law, Jack Bennett. Their memories remain a cherished part of her story, woven alongside the love she shared with her own family.

Visitation will occur on Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Sholar-Riley Funeral Home, located at 5710 Castle Hwy, Pleasureville, KY 40057. A funeral service will follow on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 1:00 PM, at the same location and will be officiated by Rev. Paul Briscoe. Burial will be in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be Janetta Briscoe, Tracey Bruce, Sarah Fitzgerald, Maranda Hoffman, Brittany Snider, Rebekah Kwan and Jamie Bennett. Pallbearers will be Aaron Bruce, Willie Hearne, Johnathan Snider, Dwayne Fitzgerald, Steven Hoffman and Ben Kwan.

Memorial gifts may be made to Lockport Methodist Church. 

The warmth of Dorothy's heart and her unwavering dedication to her family and community will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know her.
