Emblem

James “Jim” Gordon Bennett, 89, was called home by his Heavenly Father on October 8, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born on February 1, 1934, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Louisville, KY to his late parents, Joseph Bennett and Sammie (Connell) Bennett. He spent his formative years enjoying farm life in the Todd’s Point area of Simpsonville, KY.

After graduating from Simpsonville High School in 1952, Jim proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for 3 years. He returned from the service to work for Kentucky Utilities for 32 years until his retirement. He loved his community and spent time serving as a former President of the Ruritan Club in Cropper, KY.

Jim never met a stranger. Wherever he went, he had a smile or a joke to share. His faith in Christ was the center point of his life. He taught a 9th grade Sunday School class and drove a bus taking children to church in Cropper. He fiercely loved his family, and we loved him.

Jim joins his parents; his brother, Keith; his sister, Elaine Bennett; and his son, Kenneth in their Heavenly home. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Kay (Mullinax) Bennett; his beloved daughter, Susan King, of Turners Station, KY; two grandchildren, David Shouse and Stephanie Bennett Hancock; one great-granddaughter, Aleigha Hancock; his Kentucky Utilities friends; and numerous golfing buddies.

Visitation will be at Eminence Baptist Church on Thursday, October 12th from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., followed by a graveside service at Eminence Cemetery officiated by his brother-in-law, Rev. Tex Selph.

Pallbearers will be Frank Marlow, Wardie Palmer, Rob Gault, Jeffrey Moore, Doug Stone and Scott Shroyer.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Eminence Baptist Church Children and Youth Ministry, 4847 N. Main Street, Eminence, KY 40019. Online condolences may be made at: www.sholarrileyfuneralhome.com.
