Mary Jane Roberts Kephart, 73, Pleasureville, died Monday, March 1, 2021 at U. of L. Jewish Hospital Louisville following an illness. A native of Pleasureville, she was the daughter of the late Julian G. and Helen Byers Roberts. She was a graduate of Henry County High School and attended Georgetown College.
Her career began in the offices of Dr. Wyatt Norvell in New Castle, where she greeted patients and kept things running smoothly. She then worked for a period in the Henry County Courthouse doing secretarial work. Once her children went to school, she went to work at Eastern Elementary School in Franklinton to be near them. Once her kids moved on from Eastern Elementary, it was time for her to move on as well. She went to work for the Commonwealth of Kentucky in the Department of Labor, working in the Division of Worker’s Compensation. She remained there until her retirement was necessitated by her health.
In her leisure time, she thoroughly enjoyed traveling, seeing Broadway shows at Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts and being outdoors. She loved to mow the yard and maintained beautiful flowers. Her children were the love of her life, and she always volunteered for all their activities and events.
She was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She also actively participated in the Operation Christmas Child project and was involved with the annual nativity scene in Bethlehem. She ensured all participants were appropriately costumed and sometimes stood in a role herself.
Mary Jane was a very caring, loving and selfless individual. No three children ever were blessed with a better mother.
In addition to her parents, one grandchild, Eric Daniel Hayden, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her loving husband of 51 years, Joseph W. “Joey” Kephart of Pleasureville; two daughters, Jane Clay Kephart of Springfield and Juliana Hayden (Chris) of Pleasureville; one son, Jacob Kephart of Pleasureville; one brother, Julian Porter Roberts of Pleasureville and four grandchildren, Jaycie Heath, Megan Hayden, Caden Kephart and Ryan Hayden.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Sholar Funeral Home with visitation after 5 p.m. on Wednesday. Rev. Travis Sheehan will deliver the eulogy. Burial follows at Pleasureville Cemetery.
