Robert Darrell Broughton

Robert Darrell Broughton, fondly known as Darrell, was born on April 29, 1952, in Shelbyville, Shelby County, Kentucky. He passed away on December 13, 2024, in Frankfort, Franklin County, Kentucky, leaving behind a legacy steeped in dedication and love for his family.

Darrell dedicated more than four decades of his life to his career, spending 24 years with Brunswick Corporation and 22 years at Steel Technologies. Beyond his corporate endeavors, he embraced the simplicity and joys of life as a tobacco farmer, nurturing the land and contributing to the community.

Outside of his professional commitments, Darrell had a passion for woodworking, honing his skills and creating pieces that showcased his creativity and craftsmanship. He also enjoyed the thrill of the outdoors, often found shooting guns or hunting groundhogs, activities that brought him closer to nature and offered him moments of solitude and reflection.

He leaves behind his beloved daughters, Dena (Brian) McGuire of Pleasureville, KY, and Wendy (Matt) Crowe of Turners Station, KY. Darrell was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Tosha Shouse, Morgan Lentini, Taylor Wilson, Mason McGuire, and Ryan Wilson, and cherished the joy of seven great-grandchildren who brightened his later years with love and laughter.

Darrell was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn G. "Kitty" Ritter Broughton on July 27, 2020, his parents, Robert Mason and Tracy Coppersmith Broughton, his grandson Cody Tiller, and his brother Donnie Broughton. Their memories will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who loved him.

A Gathering of Family and Friends to celebrate Darrell’s life will take place on Wednesday,  December 18, 2024, 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Sholar-Riley Funeral Home in Pleasureville, KY. The family invites friends and loved ones to join them in honoring a remarkable man whose presence enriched the lives of all who knew him.
