Sammie Searcy Roberts, age 87 of Madison, Indiana, died Friday, April 4, 2014 at Diversacare of Seneca Place in Louisville. He was born in Bethlehem and was the son of the late Fred and Myrtle Searcy Roberts. He was retired from the Jefferson Proving Grounds where he served as a Munitions Proof Director. In addition, he was on the Board of Realtors with Century 21, a farmer in the Dupont and Hanover areas, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and an Elder at the North Madison Church of Christ. He is survived by one daughter: Elaine Gabhart (Gary) of Louisville; one brother: Fred Roberts (Jean) of Athens, Alabama; one sister: Corinne Barton of New Castle; five grandchildren: Cynthia Rose (Danny) of Lawrenceburg, Chris Huntley (Julia) of Florissant, Missouri, Angela Jacobi (Chris) of New Albany, Indiana, Hailey Anderson (Jason) of Louisville, and Brian Gabhart of Louisville; twelve great-grandchildren: Brent Ball, Brandon Ball, Sean Huntley, Benjamin Huntley, Jonathan Huntley, Elijah Huntley, Samuel Huntley, Carter Jacobi, Deklan Jacobi, Christian Anderson, Rachel Anderson, and Jessie Rose; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Bernice Cleo Lyons Roberts, one daughter, Brenda Darlene Roberts, one brother, J.D. Roberts, and one sister, Juanita Mahoney. Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Sholar Funeral Home of Pleasureville, officiated by Chris Huntley. Burial will be in Pleasureville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2014 and from 10 a.m. until funeral time on Tuesday, April 8, 2014. Online condolences may be expressed at sholarfuneralhome.com.
