W.i. (Nick) Nichols

W.I. (Nick) Nichols, age 85 of Pleasureville W.I. (Nick) Nichols, age 85 of Pleasureville died Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at his residence. He was born in Spencer, West Virginia and was the son of the late Benjamin H. and Rebecca Marie Ray Nichols. He was a retired First Sergeant of the U. S. Army, being a twenty-six years veteran during the time period from World War II, the Korean Conflict, and Vietnam. He formed his first military unit call the "Ghost Riders" and his last unit was called "Guns A Go-Go" where he was known as "Tops". Among his many military decorations were the World War II Victory Medal, the Germany Occupation Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with five Service Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Bronze Star with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, and most importantly, two Purple Hearts. He served eighteen years as Pleasureville Police Chief and was a Game Warden in Alaska and Alabama for three years. He spent his retirement years enjoying hunting and the peaceful tranquility of the outdoors, and was founder and president of the Henry County Wildlife Association. He was of the United Methodist faith. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Juanita DeBord Nichols of Pleasureville; one son: Kenny Nichols (wife Vicky) of Pleasureville; two daughters: Jerri Lynn Scott and Rebecca Marie Holcomb (husband Larry), both of Campbellsburg; two brothers, four sisters, ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and his best friend "Foxy". Services with military honors are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, August 12, 2012 at Sholar Funeral Home of Pleasureville with Rev. Michael Duncan of Eminence Baptist Church officiating. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Saturday, August 11, 2012. The Patriot Guard Riders of Kentucky were present during visitation and services. His final resting place will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. Online condolences may be expressed at sholarfuneralhome.com.
