Winona Lee Mcdowell Detwiler

Winona Lee McDowell Detwiler, 82 years of age, of Louisville, Kentucky passed away on Monday, March 28, 2022, at Signature Healthcare of East Louisville. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky on February 03, 1940. She graduated from Arsenal Technical High School, Indianapolis, Indiana with honors in 1958. Her career occupations included: typist-stenographer, private secretary, legal secretary and insurance secretary. She was a proud military spouse of 19 years with extensive traveling abroad and domestic. She cherished spending time with her large family. She was an enthusiastic fan of multiple sports and enjoyed cheering for the Kentucky Wildcats. She loved to read books, her favorite genre being true crime. She was blessed to have a gift of writing poetry.

Winona is preceded in death by her parents; William Clifford McDowell and Lelia Lee Payton McDowell Parrish and step-father; Russell Parrish Sr. One brother; William “Billy” McDowell.

She is survived by one daughter; Denise Darcel Combs (Shelby) of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. Two sons; James Wesley Detwiler of Pleasureville, Kentucky and Jeffrey Lloyd Detwiler (Stacie) of Sellersburg, Indiana. Six grandchildren; Billy, Bonnie, Tiffany, Dylan, Heidi and Jordan; six great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

She is survived by six sisters; Thelma Parrish of Pleasureville, Kentucky; Janice Downey of Pleasureville, Kentucky; Alma Allen (Roscoe) of Frankfort, Kentucky; Gladys Kelley of Pleasureville, Kentucky: Sharlene Booth (Darrell) of Pleasureville, Kentucky; and Jennifer Kallas of Dixon, Illinois.

She is survived by three brothers; Michael McDowell of Louisville, Kentucky; Russell Parrish Jr. (Karen) of Eminence, Kentucky and Douglas McDowell (Bobbie) of Pleasureville, Kentucky.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 02, 2022, at Sholar Funeral Home of Pleasureville, Kentucky. Brother Larry Rhodes will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasureville Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, April 01, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.

Active pallbearers will be; Billy Beckley, Dylan Detwiler, Austin Vincent, Westin Vincent, Steve Parrish, Shelby Combs and Michael Vincent.
